My brother who is 72 has Alzeimers, currently in a NH over 1 hour from where we all live. He is 100% VA disability. This NH was a stop gap til the one closer to where we all love had a bed available. The NH where he is has been less then helpful and the VA told us that they wouldn't pay for his transfer to the home closer, even though it is in the same company as the one he is in. When he was at the VA and we had to look for homes, the one where we would like him was on the list, in fact they have won awards for their care with pt with dementia/Alzheimer's, what is our recourse?? We want the family to visit, but it is a long drive and simply not feasible for those that get out of work late...we all love our brother and we are very angry about all of this. The NH where he currently is has been less then helpful, they walk the walk and talk the talk and nothing gets done...do we have any recourse? Mother brother is his DPOA and I am his primary health care proxy with our sister the other proxy.

Is it just the cost of the move they will not pay, but once he is moved in, they will cover the monthly cost? That might be worth doing.

Is there the possibility of getting placed in a Veterans Home? From what I have seen of our local one it is far nicer than the local N/Hs
