Find Care & Housing
Thank you, Carol. I had planned to do this (next appointment 10/26) but it always helps if you go to the doctor with input of your own. Unfortunately, it seems that sometimes doctors "prescribe" according to companies they have either an interest in and/or are receiving incentives from. The Ativan works for agitation but, as I said, increases his confusion. Ativan seems to be the drug of choice these days... I am glad to hear there are alternatives as my father is still quite lucid up until the "sundowner" period around 4:00 in the afternoon and I am uncomfortable with this particular side effect. Thankfully, we are not yet to the point of needing anything on a full-time basis for agitation!

Atavan helped my dad, but everyone is different. There isn't a drug out there that works for everyone, and most have side effects. Some will work in reverse to their intent. I'd document the negative changes you see and then tell the doctor to please try something else. Give the particulars. There are options out there.
Carol
