We remarried this year in June after a divorce over a decade ago. I'm in FL and have been on Obamacare for the last 4 years. I have a few more years before I am eligible for Medicare. He is in TN and has Medicare with supplement. I want to remain with my parents who are both 90. I am a nurse and plan to keep them home until they die if possible. He wants to remain in TN. It works for us.
From what we are reading, we have to file taxes "married filing jointly". How does that affect my Floriday residency? Can I still be a resident in Florida and he in Tennessee? Can I still get my health insurance through the Market Place in Florida?

From what I always was told, you can't file separately unless you file the same way. Ex: he takes deductions you must too.

And when it comes to insurance, you need to keep yours until your Medicare kicks in. His Medicare and suppliment will not cover you. And your insurance needs to be in the State u reside. Health insurances are usually State based. Can't use them out of the State. Office of Aging can help answer your questions. My SIL lives in NC. My brother is on Medicare she is not so pays for her own insurance.

JoAnn, my insurance crosses state lines. You are correct about getting coverage based on the state one resides in but, I can travel and not be in Arizona ever and still have my insurance and coverage from AZ, wherever I roam. Same with Medicare and a supplemental.

No one has to file married filing joint. You can always choose to file single. And whether or not you file joint or single it has no effect on your health insurance. You are free to buy health insurance on the marketplace from wherever. You do not need to live together. And in fact you CANNOT file together state filings as you live in different states.
See a good CPA for your questions when you file and that's actually under 500 to file simple taxes and you will be reassured.
