Hello All,
I posted a question a week ago regarding my mom who lives in NC. I received several excellent replies. We have interviewed and found suitable people to work as a live-in caregiver, and have run background checks, but we need to find/talk to an attorney in NC regarding the situation, the live-in's rights, and our responsibilities. As we call around to law offices, no one knows, or can refer us to anyone. The insurance company does not answer or return our calls. Probably deliberate. They are pretty much worthless, and what an eye-opening experience it has been...
If anyone knows of a specific elder care lawyer expert (in any state but especially NC) I would like their name and number... We have questions like:
* What if we want her out and she refuses to leave?
* What if she steals or breaks something, or is physically/verbally abusive?
* Things we wouldn't even think of in the first place, that we should watch out for or that we can deal with in advance?
Thanks in advance for all your help!

Best to use an attorney who is in your Mom's State, as State laws do vary from State to State.
Review their websites and the attorneys' backgrounds, including how long they've been practicing. I've always found that a good blend includes older attorneys with experience and savvy on how to accomplish things, as well as younger ones with "fire in the belly" enthusiastic attitudes.
In my experience, sole practitioners can be good, but they can also not be oriented toward problem resolution as they don't always have the opportunity to work with experienced attorneys to provide insight and moderation as well as people skills.
When you've selected potential law firms, ask them the questions you have and specifically whether or not those issues are included in their practice areas. Also find out if they charge by the hour, and if so, what rate, or do they provide lump sum counseling?
