My mother was diagnosed with having moderate dementia, no matter when she go to the bathroom she have a bowel movement. Back in January she was in hospital for acute Kidney problem but they said she was ok, the only medication they prescribe was Folic (spelling might be wrong) but I know its fluid pill. So its it normal and is it because she is going into the next stage of dementia? Called her doctor to set up appointment just wondering if my worried unnecessary.
And, guess what, diarrhea is a side effect of large doses. Yes, tell the doctor.

I know that if you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, you could have multiple bowel movements daily, but there would be other symptoms too.
I don't think the dementia has anything to do with the bowel movements, it's probably coincidence. However, I do have to ask if this is a *new* development for her, or is it her usual occurrence to have multiple bowel movements. Normal is whatever is normal for that person, there isn't a REAL normal, per se.
I'd check her diet, first, to see what she's eating that could be causing it. Too much artificial sugar can be a suspect, such as in sugar free candies or other foods.
