I am 53 and both of my parents 80 have parkinsons disease. They live on social security only and at the end of the month are broke and can't pay for their meds. They don't qualify for medicaid. If you have advice I'd love to hear from you. Thanks

You say they do not qualify for Medicaid yet their only source of income is Social Security. I am certain there is a program they will qualify for. Let me know more details and the state you live in and I may be able to help direct you.

I agree Medacaid has rules on how much a person or a couple can receive in funds a month-I think for one person it is $2000.00 and they can own a home and car maybe they should see an Elder Lawyer or at least an accountant to look in to why Medacaide turned them down-if they can not pay for their meds they should qualify for Medcaide-they will look back five years to see if any funds were given away in large amounts in order to receive Medcaid-there has to be a reason given to them when they were turned down-let us know how it goes because we can educate each other on this form.

Maybe call the drug manufacturers to see what programs they have for free/low cost prescriptions and ask the Dr if there are generics, or any programs Dr. is familiar with. Are you sure they don't qualify for Medicaid and if not, why not? Is is something that can be taken care of? Do they have property or vehicles they can sell to have a prescription fund for them? Be ready to disclose 100% of financials and assets and if you or anyone else lives with them "free". Are they in a position to offer a reduced rent room to someone in exchange for light housekeeping and grocery shopping? That will offer some income for prescriptions, but someone will need to stop in often to make sure everything is okay in the house.
I know it is a lot of information, I just want to offer you many options for your situation.
Best of Luck to you

Medicaid income qualifications vary from state to state. Several states reduced the income levels pretty severely as a cost cutting method. Check your individual state's Medicaid website.
