Dad is 94. With VA Aid and Attendance monthly stipend, he is able to live in his home and pays for caregivers several hours a day. But there are several thousand dollars still owed him by VA in retro- pay. There was a glitch in the filing which has delayed the payment owed him for nearly 6 months now. It was denied at first but we have filed an appeal etc. While waiting for the A & A monthly that he now receives, Dad had to use a credit card to be able to pay his home bills and caregivers he needs. The intent was to use the retro pay to pay off the card. I am concerned he will never receive this retro pay which leaves a large credit card debt. As his only child and POA, will I be responsible for his debt after he dies?
