My dad is on QMB medicaid in Florida. He had a car wreck, his car was totaled. The insurance company is going to pay him 4000 for the car. He still has his stimulus checks but this 4000 will put him over the 7,700 QMB limit. Does he have to report this to Medicaid? A car is a exempt asset and his car was ruined this is just the payment for the car. If he spends it on credit card debt right away should he still report it?

He should go ahead and use up the excess. I don't believe it is necessary to report that at this time. It would be reported if he still had it at his yearly renewal. I've worked with eligibility for QMB in another state and don't think we ever bothered with the various fluctuations. You should also double check on whether or not the stimulus check is countable as part of his assets....it may be exempt, at least for a year.
