Good day all. Has anyone on here taken a loved one to the E.R and asked for a social admit? If so, how did it go for you and your loved one? Did they admit them and get them into a nursing home? Thank you in advance. I will be doing this and am nervous I won't get the help I need for my father who can no longer be at home as he has become dangerous.
How you handle it after that is up to you. You can be involved in getting them placed and Medicaid set up if they cannot afford to pay. Or, walk away and allow the State to become their guardian. If you do the latter, you will have no say in where they are placed or in their care.
What happens often with desperate caregivers is that after trying everything else they end with what is called "The ER Dump". Meaning essentially that they have the elder driven to the ER with some excuse or another that is medical in nature (oft times the elder has become violent). While there they request a social worker at once. They tell the Social Worker that the elder cannot return to their home because they themselves are now mentally and physically unfit to care for them.
This puts the social worker to work on placement.
Do know that once you accept an elder into your home it has become THEIR home, and it is very difficult to get them out of said home; that holds in most states whether the elder is paying any rental or not.
