Renewing Medicaid. Is there a phone interview?

I filled out the renewal application online for my mom for Medicaid. She is currently not home and is in a physical rehab for a broken hip. She has not been home of course to receive any phone calls to say if she needs a phone interview or not. I try calling Medicaid daily to ask them and I am always on hold for over an hour and eventually have to hang up because I have things to do.... Does anyone know if she needs a phone interview for renewal for Medicaid only?
I don't know what to do, she needs her Medicaid since it is paying for rehab and the nursing home she is in. It needs to be renewed by April 30th. Any advice?

I don't know what state you reside in, as each may have slightly different protocol. I was a worker ten years ago, and they didn't have program you can renew online. You should be able to go online and check the status of your renewal 'review'. Call the worker (which is some times difficult to get response). If doable, go to the office to see the caseworker.

I receive information real often from Texas Health and Human Services Commission, There is a caseworker to talk to. This concerns Medicaid for the Elderly and People with disabilities. I get overwhelmed with all the paper work. You give them facts about the continuing status of the Medicaid person. This is Texas. The email is YourTexasBenefits,com Or call 2-1-1 or 877-541-7905. Each year I get a ton of paper work to fill out to keep her Medicaid. And a deadline. It isn't fun, but has to be done. I will be gone for a week, so if you reply I will be answering later. marymember

marymember, YES, I understand the paperwork and process is overwhelming. I have been on both sides of the table, as I am now a senior AND disabled. I too, get overwhelmed and anxious; as you said -- it isn't fun and has to be done. I sympathize, as I'm dealing with same situation of 'merry-go-round phone system' call. I have family in TX, MI, OH, and they all have this yearly process to get through. It sounds as though you DO understand what you NEED to do. If not, some local senior centers have people that can help. My prayers to you and all that are dealing with this, AND/or caretakers to others.

My Dad is on Arizona's version of Medicaid and he is assigned a caseworker who handles all this. His Medicaid gets renewed every three months, and once a year I get a new membership book...just as with an insurance company, that tells all about the coverage and who to call for what. I always start with the case manager and she gets all the approvals and paperwork done for us. We never had a phone interview or had to go on line to do any paperwork. Initially, he had to have people come to his facility to interview him and us to declare that he met the medical qualifications. Now, it's the case manager who makes a visit to him quarterly to see if his needs have increased or decreased, but perhaps that is due to the dementia diagnosis that it's much easier. After all, we do not 'recover' from dementia and no need for rehab. And I would also be wondering why Medicare was not covering this rehab in a nursing home because I would think, even if on Medicaid, that Medicare would kick in for all those aspects of care that Medicare covers. And can the social worker or case worker in the rehab facility help you manage this while she is there?

is Medicaid only for the elderly who are in a facility such as a nursing home or rehab center?

aginghlp: In Arizona, there is help from Medicaid for in home caregivers too...but it amounts to around 20 hours/week, so not 24/7. But for those who are physical caregivers, it's some help to give you a break. I would think there would be some version in all states, because the federal gov't passed some laws wanting to move towards keeping more elderly in their home because it's more economical....so worth a check no matter what state you are in.
