My mom has an infestation of bed bugs. I called two exterminators for estimates and gave the estimates to my sister as she is moms financial POA. This was 6 months ago and my sister has done nothing. My mother is anemic and I am worried her health will get worse due to her living conditions. What are my rights as moms health POA?
Tomorrow call out the pest control company and have the work done even if it means you pay for it.... then present the bill to your sister for reimbursement. Both you and your sister need to have better communications. I would have been on the horn calling her weekly to get her approval to pay.
(I discovered my bedbugs on Christmas eve, these were the short term measures we took).
Get a bedbug proof encasement for her mattress and pillows.
Get a couple of pounds of diatomaceous earth (available at home depot) and dust EVERYTHING with it. ( if she has any respiratory issues, this will make them worse, so be cautious). DE causes them to die by drying out their shells.
Alcohol in spray bottles kills them on contact. Buy several large bottle and some sprayers. Spritz liberally. Do not smoke or light any matches!
Wash all of her clothes, bedding, everything in hot water and dry on high for at least 30 minutes. Anything that can't be washed should be bagged in sealed contractor bags for 18 months.
Pay careful attention to the baseboards, outlets ( open up the covers) closets and crevices.
The POA should be reported to Adult Protective Services for neglecting this.
