I've been a live in caregiver for my father in law who is diagnosed with Alzheimer's/dementia for the past 9/mo. He draws a 600 . monthly SSI check. That only leaves him with exactly $150.mo to pay me. I heard from a friend that may by there are resources I'm not familiar with?

The only resource I am familiar with is if your father-in-law qualifies for Medicaid.... if he qualifies, depending on what State you live in and what programs are available, Medicaid would send a Caregiver from an approved Agency to help....

Now there are some States that might pay you directly, such as California, so check with your State Medicaid office. Lot of rules and regulations, such as some States won't pay a relative who lives with the patient, but will pay an outside Caregiver to come to the house. That way the grown child can go back to work to help save for their own retirement.

Nobody pays a live in relative, not Medicaid. They provide care through licensed agencies. Why haven't you applied for Welfare SNAP?

Well technically he's not my father in law. Me & his son has been together for 8/yrs. What is welfare snap?
