I recently had to move my uncle into an assisted living facility that is 30 miles away from my home. He recently has struggled with getting 'stuck' on the wrong TV channels. I am hoping to find a solution that will allow me to use my cell phone or other internet connected device to control the TV in his room. I have recently heard that the Logitech Harmony Hub may be a solution, but I have not found anyone who has actually used this solution to change a TV channel from a remote location. I would very much appreciate any guidance or recommendations from anyone who has already tackled this challenge.

In just doing a little online research, this app maybe looks promising but I've not used it.

And here is a post that already asked this question on this forum:

I wouldn't source anything older than a year or two ago as technology (and privacy/hacking laws) are constantly changing.

Why not ask your question on a technical device forum? I can open and close my garage remotely. But actually getting the device to change the channel? I sure don't know.

Let us know if you find a solution.

Here is one solution I found.

A roku device that is voice controlled, or an Alexa device so with voice command he can change it? Or he calls you then puts phone on speaker so you can make the changes? There are voice control remotes andntv's.

We discovered that our tv has programmable channels. Toggle through your tv mode and see if you can program “favorites”. We did that for my mother-in-law, as this happens with her all the time. We only programmed 5 channels, and if she scrolls up, it just cycles through those 5. They are the only channels available to her.

I am with Liz. You can delete channels you don't need. If he is on an antenna may be easier. Cable, you may want to get him the very basic but sports channels are not included in this pkg in my area.
