I have heard that many states have, or are, passing laws that will allow Nursing Homes to come to the children of people who owe money - to collect monies owed the Homes. If you have no way to control, or influence, the finances of an independant adult(parent), then why are you held to account for their debt? Can my MIL run up bills in a Nursing Home that my husband would then have to pay for, even though he does not have financial POA?
Many caregivers ask this question "am I responsible for my parents debt?" The quick answer is NO! Read this article to find out more.
