Mom is basically in good health, but seems to sleep an awfully lot. She sometimes reads - her kindle - until 10 PM, goes to bed by 11, but sleep 'til noon and even then needs a nap in the afternoon. When she gets up from the nap and gets moving she feels well, alert and has a good appetite. She does have osteoporosis and some osteoarthritis. Has a pace maker that "kicks in" when her heart slows to a certain rhythm. She gets regular checkup and her blood work is always perfect.

It is not uncommon for someone in their 90's to sleep a lot, whether it is 8 hours at night with a lot of long cat naps during the day. Got to remember when you reach that age you have lived a very long life, you are tired.

I have read that being on a Kindle or a computer until 10:00 pm will make it more difficult to fall asleep... I know, it happens to me when I night owl on the computer... then I can't fall asleep until 2a.m. or later :P

Just think of your Mom as being a 96 year old teenager who likes to sleep until noon :)

Thanks! I'll remind Mom about reading too late. But - if she's not doing that she's at her "WOW computer. At 96! I'll suggest that instead the late evening might be a good time to "get her prayers done." She spends at least a half hour during the day going through her list of all those she has promised to pray for.

Your Mom sounds like a very cool lady! Computer savy, into Kindle and thoughtful and loving enough to pray for others. I'd say that is pretty busy, and no wonder she is tired at her age. My mother is 100 and has no interests at all. She sits in her chair most of the day, doesn't socialize and falls asleep because of boredom. You and your Mom are so lucky she continues to use her mind and has outside interests. That is so healthy!
