My husband was hospitalized and very ill. Has anyone experienced this problem before? He was very confessed and lethargic. Could not recognize family members. Could not walk or talk. Doing somewhat better today not as comatose looking. Still waiting on the doctors to tell me something.
I have no idea about the sodium levels...I'm sorry you have to go through this, but agree that you need to do the best you can to take care of yourself through all of this.
Low sodium can be caused by psychiatric drugs and those given for seizure, you mentioned seroquil and depakote which are also used in people with dementia to calm their behaviour. Adisons disease can also cause low sodium as does water intoxication. From a previous post I noted not passing urine which of course would cause water retention and would indicate kidney failure which can lead to death.
The Dr should have test results and depending on his and your wishes will proceed from there. They can reverse a lot of problems with IV fluids and if he continues not to urinate may consider dialysis if his condition warrents it. They may recommend or you may desire agressive treatment or they may suggest you take him home and have hospice come in and keep him comfortable for whatever time he may have left. This is a very difficult time for you and I hope you have support close by. What I am saying should not be taken too literally because I do not know the exact circumstance or the course of his illness but I send you my prayers to help you through whatever may transpire. Blessings.
