My mom is 90 and broke her pelvis. She is on Medicaid, but I am told long term care is $300 per day. She is not a candidate for home hospice due to the amount of care involved and I am already at my wits end. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I'm very sorry to hear this. Poor mother, very painful. Where is she at the moment?

As I understand it, the key criterion for deciding whether a person needs hospice care is a life expectancy of no more than six months. Other than that, the distinction between hospice and palliative care is a pretty fine one.

Hold on, if she is on medicaid then she should be able to be in a facility that accepts medicaid payment. Who is telling you she has to self pay?

Sounds like she needs a nursing home and many of them accept medicaid. Do a search, ask your local Agency for Aging,
