Mom sees snakes or worms in the doorway to the bathroom + jumps in and out of the room. I fear she will fall.We just received the dementia diagnosis even though I am pretty sure she has suffered for years and is probably around a stage 4 or 5. We are waiting on blood results to rule out other possible causes of the problems and then dr. will be trying meds..... Any thoughts on what med might help with this? Or anything else I can do? I tried changing the lighting in the area - no luck. I changed the molding in the doorway from a raised wood one to a flat metal one - that helped for 2 days and then the jumping over the spot started again. :( I am at a loss for what else to do.
Electronic flickering candles are calming for some.
Calming scents are good, like Lavender and Chamomile or Magnolia and Cherry Blossom.
Is this the only hallucination your mom experiences? I am wondering if it is more of a depth-perception issue than a true hallucination. Can you try placing a flat runner over the threshold -- one with good non-skid properties and that the door will close over? See if removing the division between the floor in the hall and the floor in the bathroom helps.
Do you know what kind of dementia the doctors think this is? Having trouble crossing thresholds is quite common in Lewy Body Dementia. (It may be in other kinds, too -- I happen to be very familiar with LBD.)
