Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. I haven't any good news of a cure but with all the latest science is it possible that there is more concrete help out there "in the world health community"? Probably looking prematurely.
I would ask about hospice if you are interested in it.
Just read your profile. I’m so sorry about your wife’s situation. Do you feel that you need hospice? They will do an assessment if you do. Are you caring for her at home?
Get doctor to evaluate her for hospice or palliative care. All this means is you get more help from the doctors. And if she goes on hospice, you will get more care. After a few months, they will do another assessment to see if she is still in need of this extra care. Who knows, she may graduate, meaning she is improving..And if they find something or another issue, they will give her another 3 months on hospice, and repeat.. Hospice is there for both of you.
While a doctor will suggest hospice or palliative care, I would opt for hospice in leu of palliative care. This will provide you with more help and reduce your stress levels so you can be supportive in other ways.
I don't think Dementia alone will qualify her for Hospice. My Mom was healthy other than her Dementia. I chose Hospice when she was actively dying. First sign was she could not swallow. She had also refused to get out of bed.
Drs. don't decide on Hospice they recommend it. Its up to the family to make the decision. The family does most of the work when its in home Hospice. Aides and Nurses only show up about 3x a week. The upside is that Hospice covers Depends, wipes and prescriptions. You can get respite care too. Medicare pays for Hospice.
I think even if a cure is found it won't help those in the last stages of Dementia. Parts of the brain have already died. If there is a cure, it will probably be used on those with early signs. I think if there is any cure it will be for ALZ because that effects the brain differently than other Dementias. And then there are so many different Dementias.
