My dad has heart disease - heart fraction 10-15% very weak heart, dementia, and diabetes type 2. His sodium is always low too. He is in and out of hospitals and leaves AMA every time. Last week he left ICU AMA. He recently got into a car accident and no longer has transportation. He refuses to listen and is currently not talking to anyone in the family. He is often very very mean. Even threatened his brother. When will the state come in? Or do they just let the person become homeless? - Louisville KY
You could also call APS and tell them that you think he is in need of help/assistance/supervision. But as long as hes legally competent, he is allowed to make his own bad decisions.
Does he have firearms? If so, I would alert his local law enforcement to that fact.
I'm so sorry that you're going through this! ((((hugs)))))
You may need to call APS again and tell them that putting a brochure in the door is not going to help. That you suspect Dementia and that he isn't taking his meds. Someone needs to intervene or he will die. The state won't take over until an agency says Dad cannot take care of himself and there is no one willing to take over his care.
Are there any health violations. This is what an agency just did for a special needs man I know. They had taken his Mom out of the home for an infected foot and left him. TG someone checked up on him. APS had been called by neighbors because of the smell, but APS said he could live like that. They had no idea he was special needs. Called my nephew's caseworker. She had worked with him at one point and she called the health department. He is now in a nursing home with his Mom and seems happy.
I will call APS again. The problem is I don’t know where he is right now. He left the hospital AMA again and I just found out that he doesn’t have his truck anymore because he was in a accident. I told the hospital that APS had been called on him but again no one did anything and let a man with a sodium level of 124 leave. He might already be homeless. Thanks for the reply.
