Your profile says she is in the Hospital. I think there maybe more going on than age decline and while in the hospital ask for her to be evaluated for Dementia.

It maybe time for your parents to make a decision to go to an Assited living if they have the money. Mom is getting too much for Dad. At an AL all their needs will be met.

There is a good possibility that mom has dementia if she has not be officially diagnosed. It can be any form of dementia. A possibility is Vascular dementia this can be caused by mini strokes that go undiagnosed. It could be Alzheimer's, it could be both.
With both parents not doing well it is possible that they need more help, a caregiver several hours a day.
And if falls are a continued problem it is possible that they should not be alone.

Because she is grieving and mourning a grievous loss. Because she is stuck in thinking about it. And if she has any dementia at all, because she is forgetting she mentioned it, and is stuck in a circular pattern of mentioning it.

People with dementia often get stuck on a topic or question and have a hard time moving on from it. It’s not her fault, it’s a sign of a broken brain. I’m sure it’s hard to cope with. Trying looking up Teepa Snow and her videos that have lots of useful tips for caring with a person with dementia
