I have a friend whose mother has demenia. And wants to get out of bed but needs a geri chair.what can she do and where can I get one. To. Use for awile
Does anyone use the A&A money to pay caregivers? I had to fill out a 3rd party form, this is new to me. It only came about because I tried to reduce the A&A benefit because property taxes were taking half of it away every year.
Igloo, so right...while Mama is on Hospice...still at home....our Hospice provider also supplies whatever Mama needs...and it is a lifesaver....and true, hospice folks seem to vary widely..our first one provided nothing other than diapers pads a few supplies...our current one supplies everything Mama needs, including the ensure she exists on...so it is invaluable to have them...and while I first was wary of getting Mama on Hospice, because I feared they would simply be waiting for her to pass...to the contrary, they have been so comforting to both Mama and to me...especially our current one....they feel like family...they work with us and do everything they can to make Mama as comfortable as possible and as she has needed different supplies and/or equipment, they provide it...
This is going to be easier if she can get onto hospice & let hospice deal with it.
My mom was bedfast & on hospice @ a NH. Hospice arranged for a Winco side opening Geri chair and a Geri shower chair. Hospice rents them as equipment, so they are never " owed" and they can be switched out by hospice as needs change. Hospice also brought in a specialized bed with pressure changing mattress, diapers & butt lotions, disposable feeding bibs, and ordered twin labs HCN with probiotics canned drinks. Plus hospice will visit 2-4 times a week to do health checks, bathe or shower, etc. ministry services too if you want.
Now not all hospice companies are alike in how they approach care. My moms first hospice group approached her care as purely a countdown to death and outside of a specialized bed did nothing else. As hospice is a Medicare benefit, you can change providers, and I did this within the initial 90 day hospice period. 2nd hospice group was way way way more proactive is viewing hospice long term and arranged for better bed, Geri chairs etc.
Starbright...is your friends' Mom on Hospice? If so, ask them if they would provide one....my Mama is on hospice care and hospice provided a geri chair for her. Thanks FF...I am going to bookmark that link so it is handy...it's always good to have that..
