Depends. As you may know, there are different flavors of Medicare, and different Medicare supplements that vary in what they cover and how much out of pocket expense they leave you with. That being said, Medicare usually covers general doctor's visits and hospital stays regardless of the diagnosis. However, Medicare does NOT pay for services like memory care or assisted living facilities. The sad reality is that when an Alzheimer's patient needs assisted living or memory care the options are limited and often leave a heavy financial toll on patients and families. MediCAID is one possibility to cover the heavy costs, but the patient must demonstrate low income and limited assets.
