My mother was diagnosed with dementia in June of 2020 after having severe hallucinations and calling the police. We packed up her house and moved her in with us but after 4 months the situation was unbearable. She saw us (our family of 5) all here day in and day out (because of Covid) and convinced herself we were all unemployed and living off her $1600 social security check. According to my Mom we were all stealing her money and trying to steal her house. She accused her grandsons (who I know she loves dearly) of stealing her snacks. Everyday she wanted to check her bank balance and get the number for elder abuse. The breaking point was when she was convinced my husband was out to get her and she hid a knife in the dresser drawer just in case. On the day of the move to the memory care facility we had to call the police because she refused to go. They were great and convinced her that indeed she could probably go back home after they checked her out at the Memory Care facility. She's been there 6 months and now her level of care is changing. Soon the cost will be 8K per month. We have found a board care home that we'd like to move her to but everyone is too afraid to be the person to pick her up and move her. I'd love to hire a nurse or caregiver who can drive her to the new place. I can follow behind and be there when she moves in.
Can anyone recommend a service like this?
On the other hand she is still able to text and ask me for snacks and ask me to go home.
How would medicaid help?
