Mum has lived with me for 8 months, diagnosed 4 years ago vascular dementia, she has forgotten periodical how to do most things and lately how to use toilet, when she attends a day centre they say she mixes in well, however while at home she doesn't remember anything and has no conversation, I can't decide to put mum in carehome for the social side were she will be amongst people her own age or keep her at home, she is also struggling to climb stairs to use bathroom and bedtime, I have to bathe her daily in a bath as she is scared in the shower, I love my mum and want to do the best for her
I placed my loved on in Memory Care as I saw no other options. I support myself and run my own business. There were no funds for around the clock care for her in the home and no people to do it for free. Just a few years later and her vascular dementia has progressed significantly. She has done well in the Memory Care facility and seems content. I have no qualms with my decision, but it's up to the family member in charge. I'm sure you'll get multiple responses on this site.
